The deity Lorien Painbearer serves. The Crying God / God of Endurance. Also known as the Crying Lord (per The Painbearer’s Preacher) and the Weeping Lord (per YGOR) — same deity.
In the campaign
Spoke directly to Lorien at a critical moment in Session 15 as the heart artifact was being pulled from Lord Alric’s chest:
“If you would carry this pain, let it not be alone. You are strong and I would walk beside you.”
The heart sank into Lorien’s chest with Ilmater’s blessing, and Lorien feels Ilmater wrapping him in protective light to dull the constant suffering. This is the divine framework keeping Lorien functional while he bears the heart.
A street cult has sprung up around Lorien as Ilmater’s prophet — see The Painbearer’s Preacher and Trials of the Painbearer. Lorien rejects the framing.
Lorien’s tools
- Tome of Ilmater / Tome of Torment — given by Pavel when Lorien left the monastery in the Bloodstone Valley. Left with Old Briar in Session 06 before the Briarhollow expedition; recovered in Session 14.
- Lay on Hands — used to burn the connection between Alric and the heart in Session 15.
